ORIGINS OF CHILDREN’S DAY
Children’s day is a special day to recognize, honor, celebrate and appreciate children – GOD’S GIFTS. CHILDREN’S DAY is one dedicated to celebrate “childhood”, it is on this day that tribute is paid to all children in the world. Children’s Day is an event celebrated in many places around the world.
Children’s Day began on the second Sunday of June in 1857 by Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard, pastor of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts: Leonard held a special service dedicated to, and for the children. Leonard named the day Rose Day, though it was later named Flower Sunday, and then named Children’s Day.
Children’s Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honor of children, whose date of observance varies by country. In 1925, International Children’s Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare.
The International Children’s Day had its origin in Turkey in 1920 (April 23, 1920) and later in the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925.
Children’s Day was first celebrated worldwide in October 1955, under the sponsorship of International Union for Child Welfare in Geneva.
The idea of a Universal Children’s Day was adopted and proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world’s children.

Parents, guardians, and all adults should be vigilant in protecting and advocating for the rights of children, while this Children’s day is a gentle reminder for everyone to ensure that they are creating a better world for young Nigerians to live in the future.
Let’s continue to be great examples to kids and be conscious of our actions in making Nigeria a safe environment for them to take care of and pass on to future generations!
CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION IN NIGERIA
The celebration is held on different days in several countries. In Nigeria, it is celebrated on 27th May, annually.
May 27 is traditionally the Children’s Holiday in Nigeria. First established by the United Nations in 1964, the day remains important in the lives of many Nigerian kids.
All the local schools go to their local stadium where each school has a special march which they perform.
The school with the best marching performance wins the honour for that year.
On this day every year, children are granted a holiday while several social activities are centered on them. Excused from school, most kids converge at stadiums and centers to commemorate the event.
It has also become the habit of some government officials and media organisations to honour some children with leadership opportunities.
Certain radio and TV stations do this by featuring child broadcasters on air and letting them anchor their programmes for the early part of the day.
INVESTMENT IN OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE
Planning for the child’s secured future is not an easy task. Most people try to create a strong financial cushion for their child but find their funds insufficient at the time of need. While planning to create a strong financial back up for the child, it is important to make the right investment choices at the right time.
As a parent, one of the greatest practical gifts you can give your children is empowering them to be successful. There is no better gift you can give your child, than the promise of a secure future. After becoming a parent, you should start planning for your child’s future.
WHY PROPERTY INVESTMENT FOR YOUR CHILDREN IS THE BEST GIFT THIS CHILDREN’S DAY
The country as at now is not a friendly one whereby the government has a plan for you or your children.
Investing in land when your children are young, can be highly beneficial from a financial stand point. Land Investment is the safest and secure investment you can make. Opposed to stocks and bonds, land appreciates over time and when it’s time to sell, the chances of multiplying your original investment amount are almost guaranteed.
There are many different types of investments that could be made for children. There is the stock market which can be volatile at any given time, or there are all kinds of savings accounts.
What you really need to look at is what would the return on investment be for these? With stocks, there are big risks, and with savings accounts they are solid but the interest gained is low.
But in property investment, let’s say you invest 500,000 in a property at the time of your child’s birth. If the land appreciates even by a mere 5% or 10% per year, by the time your child is 20, that same property you purchased 18 years back, has doubled in its original purchase price.
The great thing about land investment is that you just sit and wait until the land appreciates, find the right time to sell and make money off of something that requires little to no maintenance. It’s a safe way to secure a nest of an egg for your children when the time comes and it creates an insurance policy for your children’s future.
